Originally set up to give fashion oriented students an opportunity to visit and become acquainted with the structure and function of an American Trade Union which is connected with the Women's Apparel Industry, this interesting and educational Program is offered to all Adult Groups, college level and above. The activity includes a Filmstrip, a Question and Answer Period, and a Tour of an apparel industry production facility. Examples of these facilities would include a fabric cutting factory, a design studio, etc. Obviously this tour is a unique opportunity for those thinking about making a career in this industry. Tours last approximately three hours and can accommodate a maximum of 20 people. Hours: Program begins at 9:45am, Monday thru Thursday, and is available September thru May. Admission: FREE. Reservations: At least 4 weeks in advance. Requests to participate must be made in writing.

Texas 4-H Fabric and Fashion Design Competition
The 4-H Fabric and Fashion Design Competition at the county and district level is an optional activity open to all 4-H members who have completed a clothing project with an emphasis on fabric and fashion design. Participation in the state Fabric and Fashion Design Competition is for senior 4-H members who have entered and met the eligibility requirements. The purpose of the following requirements is to provide as fair an opportunity as possible for participation by as many outstanding 4-H members as possible. The requirements given below apply to senior members who plan to participate in the state contest. Failure to comply with the requirements will result in disqualification or penalty deductions from the score. Objectives: The objectives of the design competition are for 4-H members to: demonstrate ability to obtain inspiration for designs conduct design research collect and record design ideas use the principles and elements of design follow the steps needed to complete a design practice designing.
Awards: Awards are scholarships of $200 for first place $125 for second place and $75 for third place in each of the three categories. Awards are provided by Wrangler. First, second, and third place winners' portfolios in all three categories will be exhibited during 4-H Roundup. Winners may have pictures taken and may be recognized on stage at one of the awards assemblies during Roundup.

The Antonio Project
Fellowship of Study at the Smithsonian Institution. In tribute to the artistry of the late fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez (1946-1987), Hispanic Designers, Inc. through a grant from Honorary Board Member, Paloma Picasso, in partnership with the Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives, has created The Antonio Lopez Senior Fellowship. In January 2000, the two organizations selected educator Gladys Toulis as the Fellow. The results of her research will be published in January 2001.
Since 1986, Hispanic Designers, Inc. has raised and distributed over $500,000 in scholarships to over three-hundred and fifty Latino students enrolled in an accredited fashion design school. The scholarship program is funded by the proceeds of the annual gala and by corporate and foundation donations. Scholarships are open to men and women.
